I recently bought one of these Roku sticks to try out, and this is my quick review of it. The particular player I bought is this one:
I also own a Google Chromecast, the Apple TV (gen2), and a Boxee box, so I am familiar with how these devices work and what to expect. Here are my likes and dislikes-
Likes:
- very easy to operate. One of the simplest setups out there.
- remote control. Chromecast doesn’t have one, and this one uses RF, so no line-of-site issues.
- user configurable channel list.
- Lot’s of channels. Looking at you Apple.
Dislikes:
- a little bit sluggish to remote inputs. Could use a faster processor inside.
- need a volume leveller. Some channel are way louder than others.
Overall, I’m very happy with my Roku, and I can see why it is priced exactly where it is. I would recommend this gadget to my friends, especially over the Chromecast.
